Use of medical gases is very important for hospitals and healthcare facilities. It is imperative that you know in detail about commonly used gases, understand their uses and must have skills to operate and maintain medical gas system. Knowing the machinery is necessary for the success of the machinery. There are so many medical gases but we will confine our discussion to mainly the five most important medical gases, which are discussed below:-
1. Medical Air
It is defined as clean compressed air used in hospitals and healthcare institutions for distribution of medical gases. Medical air is completely pure and is free of any contamination and particles. The air is free of oil and odors and helps in stopping water build-up in the pipeline. In the operation theatre, it is ensured that patients are provided with clean air for easy breathing. Connected with medical air distribution system, the air is used for human respiration.
Instrument medical air is used for keeping surgical instruments dry and clean. Its various medical include driving surgical tools, operating pneumatic brakes and tables, central sterilized supply, and laboratory air. Small hospitals that do not have capital to use separate compressors and piping system use pure nitrogen cylinders.
2. Oxygen
It is virtually used in every hospital & healthcare institution and is used for resuscitation and oxygen therapy. Oxygen started to be used in the medical field from the beginning of 20th century. It is often used in medical conditions like severe hemorrhage, carbon monoxide poisoning, trauma, COPD, cyanosis, life support, cyanosis, shock, cardiovascular and respiratory arrest, resuscitation, etc.
3. Carbon Dioxide
It is used for breathing medical gas for surgeries like laparoscopy, arthroscopy, endoscopy, and cryotherapy. It is also useful during and after respiratory stimulation. Carbon dioxide is distributed through hospital piping systems and often stored in a tank.
4. Nitrogen (Medical Liquid Nitrogen)
It is an important medical gas which is used for cryosurgical removal of some cancers and skin lesions. Liquid nitrogen is also used for storing biological tissues, cells and blood in cryogenic temperatures to stop oxidation of the samples. The gas is also used as part of medical gas mixture for lung function tests.
5. Nitrous Oxide
It is commonly known as laughing gas and started to be used as analgesic since 1812.This medical gas is used in surgical procedures both as an anesthetic and analgesic. To Learn More ,Visit My OXY99 Website . Click Here Oxygen Cans ..
